Save the wonderful bells of St Werburghs Church, Wembury in South Devon

Organised by ST WERBURGH'S PCC

Bells have been rung at Wembury church since 1552, now their voices are destined to be lost forever. Serious faults have been found that need urgent attention. They've only been silent during the two world wars. Please help us to keep them ringing.

Story

The push by Sport England for bell ringing to be classified as a sport will firmly identify the activity as a healthy physical and mental workout. Bell ringing is an excellent form of cardiovascular exercise and improves co-ordination, flexibility, balance and muscle tone. The mental benefits include improved focus and concentration, confidence and stress relief, as well as being a wonderfully creative and sociable activity.

We want to encourage younger generations to take up bell ringing, so will be linking with local schools to encourage pupils to attend accredited practice sessions with qualified ringing teachers who will take them through the "Learning the Ropes" certification process. Many schools encourage pupils to chose bell ringing as one of their physical education options.
