Across the world, humanists are standing up for freedom of thought and equality, often in the face of hostility or censorship.

They work in classrooms, communities and public life. They defend human rights and build hope where it is most needed.

But many are doing this work in isolation. They lack the means to connect with others, to share ideas and to strengthen our global movement.

That is what the Congress Scholarship is for.

Why now

The 2026 World Humanist Congress comes at a critical moment.

Across the world, democracy is weakening. Authoritarian and fundamentalist movements are gaining ground. New technologies such as artificial intelligence are changing societies faster than our ethics can keep pace.

The Congress theme Humanism as Resistance calls us to respond together. It is a chance to reaffirm what humanists stand for and to plan for a fairer future.

Without the Congress Scholar Fund, many of the people most affected by these global challenges will not be able to attend.
