Story
WheelPower have been providing opportunities for children and adults with a physical disability to take part in sport and physical activity for over 75 years.
WheelPower was founded by Professor Sir Ludwig Guttmann, the father of the Paralympic Games. It all started back in 1948 when he organised and hosted the first Stoke Mandeville Games in 1948 which saw 16 injured service men and women took part in an archery competition. Over the years the games continued to grow, soon becoming the International Stoke Mandeville Games before becoming what is now known as the Paralympic Games.
Doctor Guttmann's legacy lives on through the work of WheelPower, who continue to host sports events for disabled people at Stoke Mandeville Stadium and across the UK.
