Story
Whispers of Hope exists to support and protect victims of domestic abuse or sex trafficking who have no recourse to public funds and have immigration issues. These women are at risk of homelessness, trafficking, honour-based violence, and further abuse. Their immigration status and the right to be in the UK is often dependent on their relationship with their abuser.
Through our dedicated volunteers we provide: a safe house; a safespace (regular meetings); befriending; crisis support; safety planning and a whole lot more. Until they are granted leave to remain, these women are not eligible for help from statutory services, including housing.
We are able to support up to three women at any one time in our safe house Avan House. Referrals for housing support are increasing and we are planning to expand these services in the coming years. In the year ending July 2022 Whispers of Hope provided 959 nights accommodation
In the words of our women:
Lawana (name changed)
When I came to Avan House, I was very sad and confused with what was going on with me and my husband. I didnt feel like socialising and I need time on my own to think, but now I feel better and I am learning to accept it.
Here is an example of what your donation could do to support our women:
A bale of towels for a new guest costs £15
One weeks subsistence for one woman costs £50
