Whiteley Village Sports Clubs

The sports clubs in Whiteley Village (bowls and putting) are valuable to the health and wellbeing of residents, but are costly for the charity to maintain. We can only continue to do so with the support of charitable giving, grants and trusts.

The Whiteley Homes Trust believes everyone has the right to live well in a good home as they age, regardless of their financial means. We offer housing in Whiteley Village, to around 400 older people who are unable to buy or rent their own home on the open market.

Story

In 1921, the Bowls Club was established in the centre of the Village creating a social and sporting activity for early residents. More recent sports club additions are the 9 hole Golf Club (currently out of operation), and the Putting Club within the Village grounds.

Whilst the Trust recognises the importance to the community of these clubs, and the wellbeing of the residents who participate in the sports clubs, the charity cannot continue to fund these worthwhile but costly activities from the Charity's reserves.

We therefore seek external funding from charitable giving, grants and trusts to enable necessary maintenance work and ongoing provision of the facilities.

In the words of a former resident captain of the Whiteley Village Golf Club:

Over the years, we have had great times, competitions, matches, barbecues etc. This is a facility that must be kept going.
