2024- Winter Feed costs

During the winter months all our horses and ponies are inside the Sanctuary stables. Every animal has a roof over their heads. This means our costs are extremely high. We need your support to get us through our increasing weekly Bills.

In 2013 we moved to Gower to retire but after seeing so many abandoned and emaciated ponies we turned our home into a Sanctuary for them as a “save haven” to be cared for and rehabilitated. We have rescued over 300 animals, only accomplishing this with the generosity of our wonderful supporters.

Story

AS PREDICTED, WINTER COSTS HAVE DRAMATICALLY INCREASED SINCE CHRISTMAS !!

Crippling costs as Horse and all animal Feed and Hay go through the roof!

During the Winter months we have all our rescued horses and ponies inside the sanctuary, in shelters , barns and stables .

With your help we were successful in buying Haylage at the reduced price of £40 per bale ( thanks to the wonderful support we had with an earlier fund raiser )

We are currently using 4 bales of Haylage per day , split between the rescued ponies , horses, Cows and sheep .

£1120 per week

A further 8 small bales of Hay at £6:50 each

( £364 per week ) are fed daily for the most vulnerable sheep.

Some are elderly or have health problems , so they are kept near the house in warm shelters during the winter months , with our back garden as a smallish turn out area. We keep a very close eye on them , checking them several times throughout the day and night, sheep are incredibly fragile .

We feed all the rescued horses and ponies and sheep hard feed.

They have Spillers Fibre Mash , and Dobson and Horrell 16 plus mix . Total £600 per week .

Staff £100 a day plus several other part time paid helpers .

A Handy man who moves our Haylage , and does all the tractor work using his own tractor £200 per week

Farrier costs £25 per pony for their feet to be trimmed , every 6 to 8 weeks .

And as for Vet fees .

£25,000 a year for our rescued sheep, cows and ponies !

Rescued dog and Cat Vet bills vary , as to whether or not they need operations .

We are occasionally asked if David and I take a salary ?

The answer to that question is absolutely no !!
