🦔 Help Us Save Hedgehogs This Winter 🦔

As winter approaches, we’re seeing more sick, injured and underweight hedgehogs arriving in urgent need of specialist care — and it’s costing us more than ever to give them that chance.

Many hedgehogs come to us with serious injuries and health problems that need professional treatment. Some need dentals, x-rays and ultrasounds to diagnose hidden issues, while others require sedation just for basic examinations. We’ve had hedgehogs needing eye removals, leg repairs and splinting, abscess draining and parasite treatments to fight heavy burdens of fleas, ticks or internal worms — with the majority having to be done or overseen by a vet. These kinds of procedures quickly add up and are essential to give the animals any hope of recovery, not just basic nursing-care.

On top of this, many arrivals are so weak or cold that they require extra heating throughout our centre — including heat pads, heat mats and incubators — just to stabilise them and help them survive. These aren’t luxuries: they’re lifesaving essentials because hedgehogs often struggle to maintain body temperature without intensive warmth first.

The costs don’t stop with the wildlife patients. In the colder months, we also need to keep our volunteers warm and safe while they care for these animals around the clock — increased heating and electricity bills are another unavoidable expense.
