Forever Hounds Trust is the UK's largest independent charity dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and homing of abused, abandoned and unwanted greyhounds and lurchers. Forever Hounds Trust operates nationally and homes around 350 of these special dogs every year.

Story

Wispa is a special dog.

Hes the kind of special dog that demonstrates exactly why we are called Forever Hounds Trust.

Like many of the dogs that come into our care, Wispa had been abandoned in a pound, and was due to be put to sleep when one of our volunteers brought him to safety.

Like many of the dogs that come into our care, Wispa was carefully assessed, treated and matched with his forever family.

And, like a few special dogs that come into our care, Wispa became a Forever Hounds Trust Supported Dog.

Forever = Forever Support

When we rescued Wispa, he walked with a strange gait. After an initial veterinary assessment he was diagnosed as having neurological problems. We were advised that Wispas condition would continue to require treatment, and so we homed him as a Supported Dog.

Forever Hounds Trust has 50 Supported Dogs. Dogs whose additional treatments we fund because pre-existing conditions can prove unaffordable to prospective homing families, as these dogs will not be able to be insured.

Wispa has been in a lovely home in Gloucestershire for the past five years, but his condition deteriorated and impacted on his ability to move normally.

His owner got back in touch with us and we had him referred to a specialist neurologist vet where he has undergone delicate surgery to reduce the compression of the spinal cord, where it enters the brain.

We are anticipating a vet bill of £6,000 to £7000 depending on the number of scans and further treatment Wispa may now need.

The beautiful Wispa is now out of pain and danger. He is one of many supported dogs that can continue to be cared for in their forever homes due to our help. Please help us to support our Supported Dogs Donate TODAY.

Thankfully Forever Hounds Trust made it possible for us to look after Whizzie. The surgery went well and the vet is very pleased with how it went.Thank you so much - I want to share his story and tell everyonehow wonderful Forever Hounds Trust has been! - Wispa's owner

Forever Hounds Trust works tirelessly for the day when every sighthound is free from need or risk.

Currently we have 50 Supported Dogs in homes across the country which we promise to care for, when required, for life.

This costs us over £30,000 a year.

We can only be here for dogs like Wispa with your help.

Thank you for your support.
