Dear WOM Families and Community,

Since moving to the new campus, WOM families have been dreaming of a beautiful, outdoor space. The centerpiece of this space is a nature-inspired Play Structure. We are excited to announce that our NEW PLAY STRUCTURE is in-progress. It will be a huge, fun, wooden, climbing and sliding structure. It's being custom-made for WOM Charter School students of all abilities and ages, including adolescent, and fits into the larger vision and concept plan designed for Willow Oak by the Natural Learning Initiative (NLI) from NC State University.

We've contributed $110,000 from funds, including grants and fundraising efforts, towards the $150,000 cost of the Play Structure. We have a shortfall of $40,000.

To reduce the burden on the Charter school budget, we are looking to raise $40,000 now.

There are two main play structures with various ways to get up and down and some free-standing elements. There are slides, monkey bars, fallen log structures, spider-web climbers, rock walls (inverted and standard), a triple balance beam, parallel and pull-up bars, treehoppers for jumping across and balancing, a fire pole, tether ball, round table seating, and more.

These elements offer various challenge levels: easy (green), intermediate (blue), difficult (black diamond) and extremely difficult (double black diamond). The intention of the various pieces is to promote physical, psychological and social development. In addition to developing balance, coordination, core-strength, the play items encourage healthy risk-taking, and build character with opportunities for teamwork and conflict resolution.

We hope that all families that are able to contribute will donate towards the play structure. If each family provided between $200 - $500, we could easily make our goal; however, please don't feel deterred or limited in your contribution. Any donation makes a difference!
