We are a not-for-profit charity pre-school located in the historic town of Ashburton, an ancient stannary town. Thanks to the generosity of the town and St Lawrence Chapel, we have been able to thrive in the old primary school buildings, utilising any profits to maintain our extensive and cherished facilities.

From September 2025, the government is encouraging families to return to work earlier by offering “free” childcare places starting from just 9 months old. Responding to the requests from our local families, we are excited to announce that we are providing under-two places for the first time. With an expansion grant from Devon County Council, we are set to welcome 29 new families throughout the autumn of 2025.

Our renovation plans include the demolition of our toilets and kitchens and the construction of new toilets with updated drainage, a modern kitchen and a dedicated sleep room for our youngest babies. Three large knock throughs, creating ramps and making significant modifications have all addressed accessibility so we can safely ensure all children and adults, including those with mobility challenges, can easily navigate inside and outside of our pre-school.

However, during the renovations our builders discovered some unexpected issues with our old buildings. Our structural engineer advised our internal ceilings require complete replacement. We have replaced the lathe and plaster ceilings and needed to install a new commercial boiler. Unfortunately, our grant was not sufficient to cover these essential upgrades.

We kindly ask for your support in helping us raise £40,000 towards these necessary improvements. Your contributions will help towards the new bright, warm and cosy environment for both our new and returning children to learn and thrive.
