With just over 1000 mountain gorillas left in the world and 3 subspecies now critically endangered it is vital we do everything we can to save gorillas from extinction. We protect them from poachers, safeguard their forest home and improve livelihoods in local communities. Will you join us?

Story

World Ranger Day is a day to commemorate all the brave rangers killed or injured on the front line of conservation and to celebrate and acknowledge the invaluable work that rangers do to protect some of the world's most endangered species.

For the Gorilla Organization, we cannot save gorillas without rangers. Rangers are the last line of defence, protecting the gorillas and their habitat from the demands of the wider world, and they are the eyes, ears and voice of the forest. Every day they cut snares, save injured gorillas, combat the militias who run the illegal charcoal, coltam and gold mining trade, monitor the gorillas' health and collect vital conservation data.

They work in an environment that is hostile, unforgiving and often dangerous

The forest, where the rangers spend most of their time, is dense, with patches of incredibly spiny, thorny vegetation. It's massively hilly, full of trackless, sunless, steep-sided valleys. And it's very, very wet – with chilling torrents of rain often sluicing through the trees in earth-shattering deluges.

It’s hard, remorseless work. Yet the rangers do it because they know they’re saving some of the last precious great apes in Africa.

On World Ranger Day, we want to give back to the rangers by helping to ensure they have everything they need to be as safe and comfortable while they work in some of the most dangerous environments on earth. Will you help brave rangers on World Ranger Day?

It costs £288 to buy one gorilla box, and it contains all the kit and equipment one ranger needs to protect gorillas for a year. It includes waterproof jacket and trousers, sweatshirt and waterproof hat, rain shelter, hiking socks, rechargeable torch, lightweight sleeping bag, first aid kit, rucksack, and boots.

Our ambitious goal, on World Ranger Day, is to raise enough funds for 10 gorilla boxes and fully equip 10 brave rangers. We know that is an awful lot to ask for, but we hope and pray that you and our other kind supporters will make a gift so that the rangers on the front-line has the equipment they desperately need.

The rangers risk their lives to carry out their lifesaving work. Surely the least we can do, on World Ranger Day, is ensure every ranger has the kit and equipment they need.
