Story

Help Our GBR Blind Sailing Teams Get to the World Championships

We need you on board.

Three GBR teams. One World Championship. Your support can make a difference.

This year, Blind Sailing UK is incredibly proud to be sending three teams to the 2026 World Sailing Inclusion Championships in Portimão.

Our sailors have trained hard, travelled to events, competed in different conditions and worked tirelessly to develop their skills. Now they have the opportunity to represent Great Britain on the world stage.

But they can't do it alone.

Why are we fundraising?

Blind Sailing is a team sport.

For our visually impaired sailors to compete at this level, they need dedicated sighted crew and volunteers alongside them. These amazing people give their time, skills and commitment to help our sailors compete safely and competitively; they paint the picture, making the racing come to life.

While our sighted sailors and volunteers give up their time, there are still significant costs involved in getting them to the World Championships.

We are aiming to raise:

£4,000 – Sighted Crew & Volunteer Expenses

This will help towards the costs of getting our sighted team members to the championships and supporting them while they are there.

£3,000 – Coaching

We also want to provide a dedicated coach to support our three GBR teams throughout the event.

Our total fundraising target is £7,000.

Every donation helps

£10 could help towards food and essential costs for one of our volunteers.

£25 could help towards travel or accommodation.

£50 could make a real contribution towards getting a sighted crew member to the championship.

£100 could help us provide coaching and support to our teams.

Whatever you can afford, every donation brings us closer to our £7,000 target.

Why your support matters

Behind every visually impaired sailor at the World Championships is a team of people making it possible.

Our sighted sailors aren't simply there to "help"; they are part of the team. They train alongside our VI sailors, communicate constantly, make decisions together and work as one crew.

This is what inclusive sailing is all about.

We want our three GBR teams to arrive in Portimão knowing they have the support of people across the UK behind them.

Three teams. One GBR team.

We are incredibly proud of:

Team 1

Jonny Cormack

Ian Shirra

Vicki Sheen

Toby Davey

Team 2

Steve Tylecoat

Jamie Tylecoat

Liam Cattermole

Lucy Hodges

Team 3

Colin Midgley

Ben Tylecoat

Karl Haines

Tina Morris

They have all put in the training, commitment and hard work.

Now we need your help to get the wider team to the start line.

Can you help us get to £7,000?

Whether you donate £5, £10, £50 or £500 you will be helping three GBR teams compete at the highest level of inclusive sailing.

You will be helping provide the sighted crew and coaching support that makes this competition possible.

And you'll be helping show the world what visually impaired sailors can achieve when they have the right opportunities and the right team around them.

Please donate today.

Donate through our JustGiving page and help us get GBR to the World Sailing Inclusion Championships.

£7,000 is our target. Every pound gets us closer.

Thank you for believing in our sailors, supporting inclusive sailing and helping us fly the GBR flag in Portimão.
