Story
West Wimbledon Primary School is a happy, inclusive and successful community primary school. Our 420 children come from many different backgrounds, faiths and communities. Our school is further enriched by an Autism Base that welcomes children from the full spectrum range.
Being an urban school brings with it challenges, our school is sited beneath the A298 main road where the flyover is literally towering over the playground. The crumbling front reveals a daunting appearance which requires some love and investment to create an interactive learning environment that can support the learning and development of all our children. Outdoor teaching has been shown to be a fantastic way to learn. This is particularly the case for our pupils, many of whom would flourish in this environment.
We teamed up with The Natural Play Company which will turn the abandoned area beneath the overpass into an exciting play house with an outdoor classroom facility, that teachers can use to enrich their ways of teaching.
We are a charity run by the parents and supported by the teachers, staff and governors. We run numerous fundraising events and we've created Community Days, where the school community volunteer to help fix, paint, clean and clear areas of the school. We are working as hard as we can to raise extra funds to provide the children with the resources they need to learn and grow in a safe and healthy environment. (See below for an initial concept art)
