Story
Dear friends and supporters,
Yazda wishes you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
As you begin your holiday celebrations, we ask that you take a moment to remember the Yazidi and other minorities who continue to face many challenges to rebuild their lives after four years of ISIS brutally attack on their homeland.
When ISIS mounted its genocidal attack against the Yazidis in 2014, tens of thousands of civilians were forced to flee from their villages and into the mountains. Today, four years later, nearly three hundred thousands of Yazidis remain displaced, living in makeshift shelters or in the Camps.
Residents of the makeshift camps that were built on Sinjar Mountain remain unable to return to their villages, as nearly 80 percent of the town of Sinjar and its surrounding villages were destroyed. This population of 10,000 people remain huddled in the Apex of Mount Sinjar with limited access to aid, transportation, and provisions. The largest percentage of the community continue to live in the IDP camps, with limited access to basic services.
Your generous support for Yazda will help us continue the mission we started in 2014. With support of people like you, Yazda has supported more than 1,600 victims of ISIS sexual slavery with case management, financial assistance, and psychosocial support.
Ours and our partners efforts led to the passage of the UN Resolution 2379 and US Senate H.R. 390 Act of 2018, to support victims and ensure proper accountability mechanism for ISIS perpetrators who continue to enjoy freedom, unpunished.
We provide informal education to 800 children, support 8 primary schools, and 6 volunteer networks to rebuild their communities.
Our mobile medical clinic provides medicine and cost free consultations to more than 1,500 patients a month.
Through our cash for work programs , we have rehabilitated 17,000 olive trees and provided a source of income to 499 families this year alone.
We have established 27 new businesses and plan to establish over 200 businesses over next two years.
Yazda has also sponsored Nadia Murad`s campaign for over 3 years and supported her to become UNODC Goodwill Ambassador and 2018 Nobel Peace Prize winer. Yazda supports other survivors such as Farida Abbas, Shireen Jerdo, and others to tell their stories. Yazda have trained over 200 women to become actors in peace- building and reconstruction.
Your donation will support Yazidis and other religious communities and help us re-establish life to half million people who remain displaced in the IDP camps.
Our core belief is that no people should be persecuted for who they are and that every race, religion, and every human being, should be able to live with dignity in their ancestral homeland.
