Why Em See Us Run – And Why It Matters
A Sports Day Showdown for a Great Cause
On Saturday 26th July 2025, a fearless crew of YMCA Yorkshire Coast staff and trustees will compete in Mind Games 2025, hosted by Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind.
This fun, frantic, slightly ridiculous sports day-style event brings together charities from across the region in a head-to-head showdown of speed, teamwork and questionable athleticism – all to raise money for local mental health support.
We're calling ourselves Team Why Em See Us Run, and we’re out to make a scene (and hopefully take the win).
"We’re doing this to raise money, raise eyebrows, and raise awareness. It’s a good laugh, but it’s about something serious too – helping local people thrive."
– Liam Downey, CEO, YMCA Yorkshire Coast
What Are We Competing In?
Here’s what our team will be taking on:
Relay Race
Welly Wanging
Sack Race
100m Sprint
Egg & Spoon Race
Long Jump
Tug of War
We're throwing ourselves into it with enthusiasm, energy, and just a bit of healthy competition with our voluntary sector colleagues.
Where Your Donation Goes
Entry fees go to Mind, helping fund their brilliant mental health work locally.
But every pound you donate on this page will go straight to YMCA Yorkshire Coast, helping us continue our work with young people and communities in Scarborough, Whitby, Filey and across Ryedale.
We support vulnerable young people through housing, mentoring, creative arts, wellbeing support, and so much more. With increasing need and limited funding, your support makes a real difference.
"We know first-hand how vital youth support is – and how tough it is to keep it going. That’s why we’re fundraising. Because we care. And because we want to win Tug of War, obviously."
– Owen, Deputy CEO (and unofficial team captain)
Help Us Cross the Finish Line
We're aiming to raise £1,000 to power up our youth and community work in the coming year.
Whether you're backing a specific team member, love the mission, or just want to see us fall over in the sack race – your donation counts.
Please give what you can and share this page. Let's show what the Y can do.
Thank you!
