Story
When most people think of a marathon relay team, they think of six people sharing the challenge. For York Foodbank, we're hoping it will represent something much bigger.
York Foodbank works in partnership with six churches across the city, each hosting one of our weekly Foodbank sessions. Together, those churches welcome hundreds of people every month with emergency food, practical support and a warm welcome.
Our relay team carries the name No One Left Behind, the city-wide initiative bringing together the resources, volunteers and ministries of local churches and charities to help reduce poverty in York over the next decade.
Each of our six host churches will be represented by one runner in this year's Yorkshire Marathon Relay. Each runner will complete just one leg, but together they'll cover the full 26.2 miles — a fitting picture of how tackling poverty works. No single church or organisation can do it alone, but together we can achieve far more than any of us could individually.
The team will be raising funds through York Foodbank to help tackle poverty and hardship across our city — providing emergency food, debt advice and practical support, and helping us work with churches and partners towards the wider ambition of No One Left Behind.
But we also hope the relay will celebrate the partnership between churches, volunteers and the wider community that makes this work possible every week.
York Foodbank and No One Left Behind depend on hundreds of people across our churches and wider community who give their time with generosity and compassion. We hope this relay will inspire others to play their part and demonstrate that, when a community works together, nobody needs to be left behind.
We're incredibly grateful to Run For All for giving us the opportunity to tell that story through one of York's biggest community events.
