Story

Aged just three when she was diagnosed in 2016 with a pilocytic astrocytoma, she has already been through nine operations and many periods in hospital - you can read her story here .

Lyla and her family are sharing their experience so that more people become aware of possible brain tumour symptoms and to improve understanding of the long term impact that a diagnosis can have.

Paul, Lylas dad says: "It feels like we've been on a rollercoaster ride every time things seem to be on the up, more bad news is waiting around the corner. Its been a cruel few years watching Lyla go through all of this, but we just have to think of her and the rest of the kids. Lyla has been the bravest out of all of us, she just keeps knocking doors down and defying everything that gets thrown at her."

Lyla's family have been supporting the work of Brain Tumour Support and know first hand just how important specialist support is. Paul explains, "Until your family has to cope with a brain tumour diagnosis like this, it's hard to understand just how important it is to know that support is there. Especially knowing that help is there long term, because a condition like Lyla's can't simply be cured overnight. But like everything else specialist support needs funding and we hope that we can help Brain Tumour Support be there for more families who need them."

On 21st March, Paul is stepping out of his comfort zone and into a boxing ring in a charity boxing match, raising funds for Brain Tumour Support.

"I am very nervous," admits Paul, "But its something I want to do to show how brave all the children are when dealing with brain tumours. Me stepping into a ring is nothing to what Lyla goes though every day. My opponent's son was also diagnosed with a brain tumour two years ago, so it means a lot."

The bout is taking place at Rainton Arena near Durham on 21st March. Paul is looking for companies and individuals to sponsor him and add to the total of Lyla's Champion Fund. Can you help?
