Story
Across the world three million girls a year are at risk of FGM. This has serious risks for health, of early and forced marriage and girls’ education. We believe FGM can be stopped with the right information and incentives.
The Maasai community in Kenya shows that change is possible. Right now, 3 out of 4 Maasai girls undergo FGM and sport is helping to end this. In 2015, 28 Too Many, Cricket Without Boundaries and the Maasai Cricket Warriors, ran the BAT pilot project. Maasai communities taking part in this pioneering cricket programme committed to stop FGM. In one month, we coached 1,750 children in cricket and FGM awareness, and trained 25 teachers, youth and health workers as coaches.
We want to run more BAT projects in 2016 because they work – Break the Silence, Advocate, Together we can end FGM.
