Following the London riots in 2011 Afewee (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp1pYDPd8gY) decided to set up a community-run and community-focused boxing club in Brixton, to give the area's young people a safe and healthy alternative to anti-social and self-destructive behaviours.
Afewee Boxing Club is now an affiliated, competitive boxing club, with thriving Junior and Senior divisions, offering recreational boxing sessions to the wider community and doing outreach work in local schools.
Lambeth Council and GLL recently agreed to house the boxing club on a permanent basis within the Recreation Centre. A large storage room is to be refurbished as a boxing gym.The refurbishment required is extensive, and Afewee needs to raise £30,000 towards the total project costs of £60,000.
Afewee strives to provide all sections of the population with an authentic, high-quality experience of this wonderful sport. Help us secure the future of the boxing club so that we can continue to serve our community.
