Visit the charity's profileDo you remember the first day back at school after the summer holidays? Do you remember how you felt? It's a memory easily recalled, isn't it? Remember how your new school uniform felt on that first day, after weeks if wearing your own clothes? The tightness of the collar of your new shirt, the tight fitting shoes, the large jumper that you will grow into? Telling your friends and teachers about the fabulous adventures you enjoyed in the holidays, lovely food and day trips, maybe a holiday. Fond memories indeed. How proud you felt on that first day back at school.
Please remember exactly how you felt stood on that playground on that day, then remember looking around and spotting the poor kids? - did you feel sorry for them or laugh at them? The poor kids are so easy to spot as their uniform is clearly second hand, poorly fitted, they didn't share your healthy glow of a great holiday as they will have experienced food poverty and boredom, no picnics, trips and never a holiday.
Can you begin to image how that child felt on the first day back at school? - embarrassed, hungry, tired, resentful, sad.
Well we want you to support Our Kids Count campaign so no child has to experience those feelings on their first day back at school in September 2017.
Your donation to Our Kids Count campaign will enable Alice charity to ensure that families living in Stoke & Newcastle have enough food to eat during the school holidays, can secure donations of tickets for day trips and summer holiday adventures so these children can create wonderful memories, and can provide brand new uniform to these wonderful children so that on the first day of term, they turn up wearing their new school uniform, not hungry or fed up but rested and energized for the new school year, and best of all, they will be invisible, no -one will be able to identify them as the poor kids as they will look just the same as everyone else - a priceless gift to give to a child.
