Our recent study has revealed that one in four UK secondary school pupils suffer from regular or daily back pain. A similar number also suffer from neck and shoulder pain regularly or every day.
School bag burden affects half of pupils and back pain is ten times more common among this group.
Prolonged sitting is also linked with double the rate of back pain among those who sit more than average.
Back pain is now the world's leading cause of human disability. We believe prevention should begin at school.
Back pain and related pain conditions account for a quarter of all UK sickness absence from work. Let's not create another generation of back pain patients.
