Story
The Caribbean STEM Coaching Club has been running for two years now. As a short term goal, we aim to help children get through their GCSE exams, particularly in maths and physics, by offering guidance on the curriculum content, study tips and good organisational skills. Our longer term goals are to help the students see the real world value of the things they learn in school by letting them talk to professionals who use those very concepts. This helps them to see the monetary value of concepts and hopefully will inspire a generation of tech entrepreneurs. We also aim to connect students with positive role models from their community - people who look and talk like them, who have been through the same struggle and can help. This can potentially help students to build professional and effective networks from an early age.
Finally, we recognise parenting as a pivotal component in the mix. We offer sessions to parents which help them discover the most powerful ways of supporting their children for long term success.
Over the past two years we have had approximately 20 students enrolled on the programme and an equal number of parents. This club has called on approximately 25 coaches. The societal engagement is incredibly high. We at the CSCC are proud of the social Impact that this programme is having, and we have
plans to continue and grow this programme to touch more lives.
This fund raising campaign will support the 2017/18 cohort of the Caribbean STEM Coaching Club (50%) and the Student Program for Innovation in Science and Engineering in the Caribbean (50%).
