The campaign has now expired but it's not too late to support this charity.
Visit the charity's profileWe would like to build upon the excellent work that has been undertaken by the Young Carers in Schools Award Project. The work that we have delivered over the last year has directly impacted pupils in junior schools, we are requesting the chance to extend this amazing project into secondary schools across the county. As in the junior schools project the programme will assist in the identification of 'hidden' carers and will also; 1) Deliver young carer awareness training to school staff and, where appropriate Governors. 2) Deliver young carer awareness to pupils via assemblies. 3) Support the schools to identify a young carers Champion. 4) Support the school to sign up to a 'Working Together' document with Young Carers Bucks which will agree closer working, referral pathways and professional liaison. All the schools who complete the above four elements will be awarded a Young Carers in School - SILVER Award. If the school then agrees to deliver a half termly young carers group they will be awarded a Young Carers in School GOLD award. The work that has been undertaken via the Young Carers in Schools Award Project has filtered through from junior schools to secondary schools and has resulted in requests from secondary schools to deliver awareness. This is a fantastic outcome but one to which we are struggling to respond due to capacity. The implementation of this project would enable us to respond positively. Schools would be formally invited to join the programme and work with Young Carers Bucks to achieve an award.
Receiving an award provides evidence to inspectors and partners that the schools are aware of and understands the issues faced by young carers and that they are committed to providing the support they need to help them fulfill their educational potential.
