Based in Symphony Hall, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra gives over 150 concerts each year in Birmingham, the UK and around the world, playing music that ranges from classics to contemporary, film music and even symphonic disco. With a far-reaching community programme and a family of choruses and ensembles, it’s involved in every aspect of music-making in the Midlands. But at its centre is a team of 75 superb professional musicians, and a 100-year tradition of making the world’s greatest music, right here in the heart of Birmingham.

Story

Musicians, staff, chorus members and supporters of the CBSO pick up a new instrument to learn and pass their Grade One in six months.

Grade One-a-thon-ers are seeking sponsorship for their music dedication, so that every squeak, scale and staccato is supported.

The CBSO is the flagship of musical life in Birmingham and the West Midlands – and one of the world’s great orchestras. It gives over 130 concerts each year in Birmingham, the UK and around the world and has a far-reaching community programme and family of choruses and youth ensembles.

The Guardian recently described the CBSO as a ‘world-class orchestra’, and we have ambitious plans to stay that way – but our public funding – has declined by 32%since 2010. We urgently need to raise over £1 million per year – and to do so we need your help.

Pickup an instrument to join our band of Grade One-a-thon-ers, or support those who are taking part by donating here.
