Story
The Milestone School in Gloucester is one of the largest Special Schools in England, with over 300 pupils, aged between 2 and 16 years. Many have severe and complex special needs, such as cerebral palsy, genetic conditions, and medical illnesses. They benefit greatly from the freedom and warmth of a hydrotherapy pool, which allows vital exercise to keep muscles relaxed and joints mobile. The present pool at Milestone was built in the 1970s. It is no longer fit for purpose must be replaced.
The new building, housing the therapy pool, will also have facilities for physio and occupational therapy, a rebound therapy/trampolining gym, 3 storey soft play an, atrium with cafe, where our pupils can practice workplace skills and young enterprise projects. Out of hours, the Centre will provide much needed facilities for 'short breaks' - where young people and adults are taken out by a personal assistant to enjoy themselves independently. Members of the public can visit, with full facilities for people with disability, such as the Changing Places bathroom.
The Chamwell Centre's therapy and leisure facilities will be available to all and special hydrotherapy sessions will be offered for groups such as young people with muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, rheumatoid arthritis and those recovering from joint surgery and sports injuries.
We raised the £5.1m capital to build the centre by November 2019 and the centre is due for completion by September 2020. However, running costs still need to be raised - this is where you can help The Chamwell Centre Charity in realising its vision to provide an inclusive, inspiring and enjoyable venue for children, young people and families to enjoy together for years to come. THANK YOU
