Crisis Response Service

Organised by Chums Charity

Suicide shatters family lives. It is catastrophic and the consequences far reaching, compounded by a lack of understanding & stigma. CHUMS' passion is to reach out & help families to face the future.

CHUMS is a Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Service for children and young people in Bedfordshire. We support children who have been bereaved, traumatised or suffer with other mental health difficulties. With the right support we can help build resilience and give them hope for the future.

Story

"Suicide" is a word that fills families with dread. The ripple effect of a suicide - like a bomb dropped - affects first those closest, moving swiftly outwards to extended family, school, friends, work and the community around them. The devastation and cost implication is huge and the risk of further suicides in the circle of family and friends must not be overlooked.

The need for a Crisis Response Service has existed all 17 years that we've been offering bereavement support. Being able to respond quickly - via notification from the Bedfordshire Police Control Room - will enable us to relieve some of the desperation and isolation experienced.

With your help we can employ a Suicide Liaison Lead to offer support to the family including clinical intervention & an ongoing peer support group. CHUMS will be there for the long term - long after the first anniversary, difficult Christmases and birthdays have passed. Please view our video https://vimeo.com/125900785
