Clare College is the second oldest College in Cambridge University. It is a progressive and informal College with an emphasis on academic excellence and access to education for students from all social backgrounds.

Story

The idea for the scholarship originated from discussions between a group of graduate students on the role and responsibility of universities in the recent refugee crisis. Dismayed at the injustice and tragedy faced by the people in unstable regions of the world, we decided to crowdfund a bursary for one refugee student to pursue a Master’s degree at the University of Cambridge.

The campaign is asking the graduate students of the 31 Colleges of the University of Cambridge to host fundraising events and to donate the proceeds to the campaign. So far, the campaign has raised over£9000. All donations will be used to cover university and college fees for a refugee student seeking a 1 year graduate degree at the University of Cambridge. If fundraising goes well and a suitable candidate is identified, we hope to award the scholarship to a refugee student for the 2017/2018 academic year.
