Visit the charity's profileJess came into our care after she was removed from a garden having been found in an emaciated condition. She was also suffering skin and hair issues and in overall poor health, due to living outside for so long.
Jess, a German shepherd cross, was confirmed to be 14 years of age and despite her poor body condition, was very sprightly. She instantly stole the hearts of the Animal Care Team with her loving nature and zest for life.
However, following a veterinary examination, a lump was discovered in her abdomen and was later confirmed as a mass on the spleen which could have ruptured at any time. The team at CDCH was heartbroken, Jess had finally been given a second chance at life and at the final hurdle it was devastating to think this chance might be taken away.
After careful consideration and discussions with the Vet team, we decided to go ahead and operate on Jess, as the vet was positive she had a good chance of making a full recovery.
We are pleased to say Jess is making a great recovery and is now ready to find her forever home.
Jess is not the only animal that has required an extensive operation after coming into our care, many animals have ongoing health conditions that require expensive veterinary attention.
As an independent charity we are entirely dependent on the generous support of the public and local community so any gift you feel you can donate will help us to help more animals like Jess.
