Story
The Dao Tien Endangered Primate Species Centre in Vietnam has eleven rehabilitated pygmy loris (Nycticebus pygmaeus), rescued from the illegal wildlife trade ready to go into the wild. The pygmy loris is an endangered nocturnal primate being hunted to extinction for the illegal pet trade, traditional medicine, and meat.
Each rehabilitated pygmy loris will be radio collared and monitored for one year before collar drop off to ensure they survive. One collar costs £134.00
An extra four collars and one receiver are also needed for wild pygmy loris found in the buffer zone of Cat Tien National Park. Working with local farmers, we aim to monitor the wild pygmy loris and understand how they use this shared landscape with farmers.
With greater law enforcement and a better understanding of the the environmental needs of the pygmy loris, a landscape level conservation strategy can be put in place; ensuring these amazing gremlins of the night are here for future generations.
