Story
The Hydrotherapy pool in Enable Ireland Sandymount was built in 1991. Hydrotherapy pools are different to other swimming pools in that the temperature is maintained at a very warm 34/36 degrees Celsius. This allows those with physical disabilities to receivephysiotherapy in an environment similar to a very warm bath. The warm water allows muscles to be moved more easily and physiotherapy in this environment is highly effective. Having people suspended in water, allows them to use their bodies in ways not possible if in a wheelchair or on the ground. Being able to move independently and freely while suspended in water can been enormously liberating for people who normally have restricted movement, elevating mood and opening their minds to their abilities.
The pool has been a source of fun to not only our service users but also the local community and local school for over 20 years so we hope you will support this important redevelopment plan.
