Story

Gala Remembers is a partnership of community groups and organisations working together to create a respectful commemoration for all those who served our country during WW1.

The 11th of November marks the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice, which ended the hostilities of WW1. One of the deadliest conflicts in military history, with millions of military personnel and civilians dead, including the 639 men commemorated on our War Memorial.

Included in the 639 are Adam Davidson, from 139 Halliburton Place, who was killed in action at the age of 20 years; brothers Charles, George and William Inglis, from Glendinning Terrance and John Walker of Elm Row, who was only 17 years when we was killed in action in France.

Energise Galashiels Trust is launching this appeal to allow Galashiels to deliver the most fitting commemoration possible in 2018 and to create a legacy for the future.

Plans include: Exhibitions, lecturers/reserach days, WW1 films, a tea party, a Festival of Remembrance, the publication of a book of WW1 artefacts and memorabilia. The culmination will be the Royal British Legion Scotland Remembrance Parade on Sunday 11th November, with a special Angel's Wings Service that evening.

We need your support to help us deliver this commemoration. Please make a donation today.

Thank you
