Sand dams for the Mukogodo Maasai in Lekurruki Conservancy, Northern Kenya

Organised by Sand Dams Worldwide

Sand Dams Worldwide supports people living in drylands to build sand dams, and grow enough food to feed and support their families. Sand dams empower communities, putting the future firmly in their own hands. They provide a lifelong supply of clean water, transforming thousands of lives.

Story

For Titolai Moile and her pastoralist community, the Mukogodo Maasai, finding water has always been a central concern.

Climate change and loss of land means water and fresh pastures are becoming harder to come by. Droughts can be severe enough to cause livestock fatality.

Titolai says: "The children aren't going to school because they have to get water. We are just hoping it will rain."

But there is hope for a better future. The Mukogodo Maasai are building a network of sand dams throughout Lekurruki. So far six dams have been built, and five more are underway.

We urgently need to raise funds to complete these sand dams before the rains come:

- £15 could provide a claw bar, essential for building sand dams

- £35 could provide a wheelbarrow, to transport rocks and cement on the dam site

- £75 could provide a set of tools, including a hacksaw, claw bar, pickaxe, sledgehammer and shovel

Please donate today, so more people like Titolai and their families have a lifelong supply of water.
