Story

UNPLUG is back again! Throughout the whole of this school term (September until December), we’re encouraging every one of our supporters, along with their friends and family, to turn off their screens for a day and raise money for our work bringing inner-city children to our farms for a week of muck and magic.

For the majority of the children that visit us, their access to spaces to play is very limited with unsafe neighbourhoods or simply no outdoor space around. They are often confined to their homes and their entertainment comes from a tablet screen or computer game. When children spend a week on our farms, they don’t have access to phones, tablets, computers, television, or any screens at all. And do you know what? It doesn’t bother them at all! The children from Baguley Hall Primary in Machester said:

"We enjoyed not relying on technology like laptops, TV and mobilephones. Have realised there is more to life than TV!"

So, what can you do? All you have to do is replace your screen-based entertainment with another activity for one day, ask your friends/family/colleagues to sponsor you, per day or per hour. You can create a fundraising page for this campaign page to collect your sponsorship.

About the charity

Founded in 1976 by children's writer Michael Morpurgo and wife Clare. A weeks stay on one of our working farms aims to develop potential, build self-esteem and enrich the lives of 3,200 children from inner cities, and towns annually. Many are disadvantaged and some have special educational needs.
