Story

For 2019, the Tour de Frimley riders will be tackling part of the Spanish Pyrenees. The plan is to leave Frimley, cycle 50 miles to Portsmouth where we will get the ferry to Spain. We will then cycle another 600 miles in Spain before returning to Frimley.

The first challenge was in 2012 and covered 1050km across Northern France, raising £9,500 for a larger, family-centred Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU). The 2014 to 2016 challenges all covered 1150km across France and raised in excess of £70,000 for the charity’s Breast Care Appeal to help diagnose breast cancer earlier in a dedicated breast unit at Frimley Park Hospital. In 2017 we did a solo challenge from Paris to Nice raising £5,000 for the Stroke Appeal and Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

Our vision as a team is to provide a centre of excellence with the aim of becoming a national flagship service for stroke.  To realise this vision a new build, which will be accessed from the Stroke Unit, will provide a quieter environment that patients and their families can access in order to spend that quality time away from the busy ward. Dedicated rooms will also be provided for Speech Therapy and Psychology assessments and for complementary services such as massage or hairdressing.
