Story
Join Global One on Sunday, the 16th of June at 10:30 am for our Dignity Run. This 5K run on Hampstead Heath is open to runners and walkers of all ages and will end in a family picnic. We are raising money for the thousands of refugee women around the world who don’t have access to menstrual hygiene products.
Just £25 can provide three months’ worth of hygiene and sanitation products including disposable and reusable sanitary towels, shampoo, soap, a toothbrush and toothpaste, nail clippers, a towel and more.
In crisis situations, women are disproportionately affected by the strain on services. Lack of menstrual hygiene products affects health, education, and can increase the risk of violence and human trafficking.
We help Syrian and Rohingya refugees, rural communities in Kenya, Nigeria and Bangladesh by distributing Dignity Kits to the neediest and most vulnerable.
In emergency situations feminine hygiene gets largely overlooked. This is because the need for clean water, shelter, food and security is given priority. The lack of feminine hygiene products and underwear forces women to use unsafe materials. This leads to infection and disease which can even result in preventing young girls from attending school. Effective menstrual management is therefore essential for mental and physical well-being, demonstrating the importance of our Dignity Kits.
Because of these dangers we will be fundraising to distribute important hygiene items to women living in difficult conditions to help to restore dignity to women. Dignity can present itself as a result of the smallest of things – a toothbrush, sanitary pads or even nail clippers. These kits contain everything that a woman should need to manage her period in a healthy and hygienic matter. In addition, it gives her one less thing to worry about.
