Story
Edale to Hawes – 108 miles, in 60 hours – is the Montane Spine Challenger: a nonstop race held in the middle of the British winter, when there’s more night than day, temperatures are regularly below freezing and if you’re lucky it’ll be snowing and not raining.
January 2016 will mark the inaugural Montane Mountain Rescue Challenger, which opens up a new class in the 108 mile race for members of mountain rescue teams who voluntarily operate 24/7 365 days a year in the wild and remote areas along the Pennine Way race route.
GMRT has entered 4 team members to push themselves against the Pennines, the British winter, their own endurance and, of course, the clock. While primarily motivated by the challenge itself and the pending satisfaction of arriving in Hawes within 60 hrs of leaving Edale, it is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the voluntary efforts of Mountain Rescue throughout England and Wales, and to give you the chance of putting a price on their suffering.
