Story
We take all the stray dogs from Bridgend, Merthyr, RCT and Torfaen Councils. These animals would otherwise be destroyed after spending 7 days in the pound. We also take in dogs from the public, prioritising owners and dogs in crisis.
Your donation will help to provide veterinary care for the rescue dogs whilst they are with us in the rescue centre or our network of foster homes. Many of the dogs that come in to Hope Rescue have medical issues, from serious conditions or injuries requiring surgery to skin problems and digestive upsets, or the ill-effects resulting from irresponsible breeding. Our Healthy Hounds project will help us cover our veterinary costs to make sure that all our dogs get the care they need and can go on to live happy, healthy lives.
In the current financial year several developments have put an extra strain on our resources: - In March 2017 we moved into our very own rescue centre, following 12 years of using our network of foster homes and commercial boarding spaces. We now have extra capacity for with 51 kennel spaces for stray and surrendered dogs. This has resulted in a huge surge of dogs needing our help and therefore a significant increase in our veterinary care bill.
In June 2017, the RCT Council stray dog contract and kennelling service was transferred to Hope Rescue and on 4 December 2017 we also agreed to provide the same service for Bridgend Council at very short notice. Our developing relationship with local authorities means that we are also being asked to support seizures under the animal welfare act, whilst more vet practices are aware of our service and contact us for support when an owner has chosen to euthanise their pet rather than pay for treatment.
During 2018 we expect our vet fees to exceed £70,000 and we would really appreciate your help towards these vital costs. Thank you
