Horatio’s Garden is a charity that creates and cares for beautiful gardens in NHS spinal injury centres. Leading garden designers develop the stunning sanctuaries for patients, their family and friends. Activities in the gardens include garden therapy, art, artists in residence, tea and cakes and music concerts. The charity is named after Horatio Chapple.

Story

Horatio's Garden Scotland opened in 2016. Designed by James Alexander-Sinclair, this beautiful sanctuary for patients and their families is an uplifting place, brimming with ever-changing colour and scents. Patients come to the garden in beds and wheelchairs and enjoy the calming ambience, away from the clinical environment.

We are fundraising to cover the costs of caring for the garden and organising events and activities for patients - garden therapy, music, art and tea and cake - ensuring Horatio's Garden is a sanctuary for patients and their families all year round.

Patients with spinal cord injuries spend a long time in hospital. There is much evidence that gardens and gardening have a positive effect on a person’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Horatio's Garden Scotland is at the Scottish National Spinal Unit which serves patients from all over Scotland who have experienced spinal cord injuries.
