Story
I am embarking on a 230 mile tandem ride in April this year to raise funds to enable me to visit and speak to more state secondary school pupils, staff and parents free of charge. Funds will also provide free one-to-one mentoring resources to all young people within secondary schools.
The original plan was to cycle from Liverpool to Chelsea accompanied by an ex pupil, Jack Chitty. However, I have decided that, sadly, I cannot risk attempting the challenge as planned since training has shown that riding on the back of a tandem with no sight on busy roads is far more challenging than I'd initially thought. After conversations with friends, family and cycling experts I have come to the conclusion that myself and Jack simply do not have the experience required to attempt the cycle ride safely.
However, the challenge will continue but in a new format! It'll take place over the same proposed dates (beginning 29th April) but I will cycle the 230 mile around a cycle track instead. I will attempt to ride up to 50 miles a day with the tandem being 'piloted' by friends and local volunteers. Still a huge feat but hopefully without the dangers of the proposed road cycle ride. The ride will take place at the Odd Down Cycle Track in Bath starting on Sunday April 29th and finishing on Friday 4th May.
If you are local to the Bath area and would like to be involved in cycling with me (on the tandem or beside) or supporting the event please let me know! Updates on the challenge will be posted on the ‘I Can & I Am’ website: www.icanandiam.com
Thank you so much for your support,
