During NGAW we are raising awareness of the importance of regular eye checks for close relatives of someone with glaucoma.
This is Hayley & her daughter Amy Louise. Hayley was diagnosed with glaucoma in both eyes. Her dad also had the condition. Having been diagnosed myself & knowing my Dad also had the condition & now I am concerned that my children may also develop glaucoma.’
With early diagnosis, professional monitoring & life-long treatment the majority of people with glaucoma will retain useful sight for life. As Hayley was diagnosed early her life carries on as it was before but she has lost some peripheral vision. By taking eye drops twice a day she can control her glaucoma.
In the UK, each year 11,054 people are newly diagnosed. The IGA receives no Government funding and relies on support from friends, like you.
Blindness from glaucoma can be prevented. The support you give us makes a real difference to people with glaucoma like Hayley today & in the future.
