Visit the charity's profileHassan Hassan, (see photo) received training from Initiatives of Change whilst he was a refugee in London, before going onto Mogadishu to train women in leadership skills. By donating to this work, you are able to help others like him gain skills that can help them contribute to re-building their countries of origin.
Initiatives of Change has been contributing to peace-making and nation-building since the Second World War. Refugees as Re-builders was launched in 2015 in light of the influx of refugees coming into Britain. Amongst those who have come to live in the UK, some will eventually return to their country of origin to contribute to re-building it. We believe that refugees deserve to be welcomed and supported through training that will help them to succeed in leadership in their place of origin, should they wish to return. It is these individuals who can work from within their countries to bring change and work towards peace.
The course complements income-generating skills as well as developing skills to promote reconciliation, ethical leadership and sustainable economic structures, which are essential in repairing fractured communities and laying a foundation on which to build a stable society. This is done through three modules; Dialogue for Social Cohesion, Ethical Leadership, and Sustainable Livelihood, at Foundation, Intermediate and Training of Trainers levels.
We currently have 17 participants who have completed the Intermediate course and are ready to move to the next stage; Training of Trainers, and we urgently need to raise funds to enable this final stage of their journey in 2018.
The cost includes the trainers’ fees, lunches, contribution to travel expenses for those attending from outside London, the certificate awards event and overheads.
A donation of £500 would enable one participant complete his/her training.
We invite you to contribute to making this possible.
