Sunshine, smiling women in bright saris suggest a decent quality of life. But don’t be fooled, rural poverty in India is grinding.
Poverty disables women in village India – but that doesn’t just mean not having any money. It means miserable access to knowledge and education, and potential income opportunities. We believe that educating women and children is crucial. Through education and training women become empowered to generate an income and take control of their well-being.
Our projects focus on the importance of empowering women through knowledge by :
Educating women about better nutrition and delivering projects that focus on cultivating nutritious foods like honey, fish, vegetables and goats’ milk.
Training women in livelihoods including sanitary napkin production, crab cultivation and honey production to provide a sustainable income.
Keeping more girls in school upon reaching puberty by giving them access to sanitary napkins.
So, instead of buying Dad another pair of socks or Nan another scarf, why not give them a gift to make them feel good whilst giving the gift of knowledge to people in India?
A £5 donation could buy a fruit tree for a village school
A £10 donation could buy books for a children's library
A £20 donation could buy a small solar panel to help one student study at night
A £30 donation could buy a sewing machine or beehive for one woman
A £40 donation could pay for 1 month's English tutoring for Dalit children
A £50 donation could pay for training for 25 women to produce sanitary napkins
A £100 donation could pay for a workshop on millet cultivation and cooking for 75 women
These donations will help give the gift of knowledge and give women in rural India an opportunity to work their way out of the poverty cycle they are trapped in.
For every donation received we will send an electronic card for you to give to the recipient of your gift.
