Visit the charity's profileWhat is the Medical Foster Scheme? For those cats and dogs with a medical condition, finding a new home can be an extra challenge. New owners can be put off by the prospect of extra vets bills and the cost of regular medication. LAA’s Medical Foster Scheme covers the costs of managing a condition for animals that leave the Centre with a known medical condition. Finding a home to call their own is especially important for these animals. Not only does it contribute to their psychological well-being, often their physical condition is boosted too.
How does the Scheme work? The foster carer provides food and the usual equipment for the animal, while LAA continues to pay for treatment for the animal's particular condition. Any dogs or cats who are registered onto the Medical Foster Scheme will receive their veterinary treatment via our Tuesday morning Vet Consult. We are currently helping around 45 animals to live in their 'forever homes' through the Medical Foster Scheme. It costs thousands of pounds every year to look after the dogs and cats on the Medical Foster Scheme.
