Story
Say hello to Northern Ireland’s first ever breast cancer survivor Dragon Boat team...
We train weekly, paddling from Bryson LaganSports in Belfast and provide opportunities for anyone affected directly or indirectly by breast cancer to participate in Dragon Boat paddling, Through this we support and develop emotional wellbeing and overall general health and fitness.
Although our club is primarily made up of breast cancer survivors, it also includes supporters, family members and healthcare professionals - we are inclusive and open to all! We’re making a difference here in Belfast but now we want to show the world what our dragons can do… 2018 is our year to shine and we need your help to make it happen!
July 2018 Lagan Dragons will be representing Northern Ireland by competing in the 2018 International Breast Cancer Paddlers’ Commission (IBCPC) Participatory Dragon Boat Festival in Florence, Italy. The Lagan Dragons team will be on the sporting world stage receiving huge international media coverage as well as support from local press.
2018 will be the first time the Festival has been held in continental Europe with 129 teams from 17 countries around the world registered to compete and 4000-5000 visitors descending upon Florence for the event. We will be represented by a team of 31 paddlers - will you support us?
Our team members have undertaken to pay for their own accommodation and travel to the Florence Dragon Boat Festival. However there are huge costs associated with team attendance so we need your help!
