Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. I am doing a 10K walk on the 14/03/18 to mark the 4th anniversary of the death of Dr. Lawrence Obinna Duncan Osuji and raise money for LODO Foundation which was started in his name.
He was known to care for the disadvantaged and vulnerable in the society. He spent more than 10 years of his career as a doctor in the rural areas of Nigeria treating and curing the less privileged who could not afford to pay for medical care. He was popularly called a humanitarian doctor. On coming to the UK in 1996, he continued his humanitarian work. Many knew him as one who volunteered himself and resources to help the disadvantaged, less privileged and vulnerable in the society.
The pain of losing a loved one can be traumatic enough, but losing a loved one that is also the sole breadwinner of the family, can throw a whole family into disarray and confusion resulting in a devastating effect on young mothers and their children. Immediately poverty and hunger set in especially in Africa where being widowed is a stigma and is looked at as a bad omen. Most times widows become isolated and friends and extended family members would be nowhere to be seen. Some vulnerable widows become victims of sexual exploitation; children as young as 7/8 years, instead of being in school, are out on the streets hawking and selling items and are exposed to all manner of danger including child rape, some end up being kidnapped and killed for a ritual. Orphaned children who do not have relatives that can support them go through even worse cases of child abuse.
LODO Foundation supports them to make a fresh start through education and acquisition of skills. We have carried out a number of projects to empower young widows through microcredit. Some fatherless and orphaned children are currently being sponsored in boarding schools.
I appreiate your support. Please donate to support this charity to improve the lives of those in need.
