Every child deserves to be given the opportunity to thrive. Children with disabilities often face reduced opportunities and because of the stigma around disability are kept isolated.
We aim to tackle limited access to healthcare for children with disabilities in rural and urban areas around Karachi, Pakistan and Kathmandu, Nepal by training of community health workers in disability issues. We are doing this in a sustainable way, by having trained local therapists as master trainers. The next stage is that these local therapists will train the Community Health Workers on disability and on the MAITS' parent guide and they will take what they have learned directly to families in their homes.
This project will improve access to health services for children with developmental disabilities by:
· Increasing the identification of children with special needs in the community by trained community health workers
· Providing support for the child at home, through caregiver training, that will have a direct impact on the child’s health and well-being
· Strengthening referral systems between community and specialist services
Rather than treating families as hard to reach, we see the onus is on us to reach out to those who need support.
A donation of £10 could pay for the travel for one community worker to receive the training
A donation of £25 could help us to produce a training package for a Community Health Worker.
A donation of £34 could pay for a parent manual which would be used during home visits to families with children with disabilities.
Any donation you can give is gratefully received to help improve the support that families with children with disabilities can receive.
