The Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital is a state-of-the-art specialist paediatric tertiary referral hospital. It will provide child-centred best quality medical services, where no child will be turned away due to their inability to pay.

It is the one place where the legacy of Mr Nelson Mandela and his love for children will exist in the daily life of a child. Through its training and research, the hospital will build human capacity and will spread the ethos and values of Mr Mandela.

Africa as a whole suffers from a dire lack of dedicated paediatric facilities, with only four such facilities on the continent - 2 in Egypt, 1 in Kenya and 1 in Cape Town, South Africa. These serve a population of nearly 450 million children and the current levels of paediatric service is overwhelmed by the demand for health services with extremely long waiting times.
