The aims of the charity Medcare (No: 1141700) are to ensure health equalities for sick vulnerable deprived children in the developing world through medical and social care. The main focus of the work is a dedicated children's medical centre in rural Uganda, serving over 400,000 children.

Story

In Uganda there are over one million disabled children, many abandoned by their families and marginalised in their communities. There is very little health provision for such children and virtually no social assistance. 40 disabled orphans in Bukulule, Uganda, are presently housed in a small, unhygienic home, built on uneven, dangerous land. They are cared for by Noeline, a loving, caring Ugandan woman who is herself handicapped. Re-housing is essential for these children for their future health and welfare. The new home will comprise dormitories, toilets, shower blocks, kitchen, dining area, in-door and out-door play areas, physiotherapy room, sick bay, office, vocational training rooms and land for self-sufficiency farming. Noeline's Home will provide disabled children with a safe, loving environment in which to grow and develop, providing them with a knowledge of their own self-worth and hope for the future, and enable them to take their rightful places within their communities.
