Story
Mumsnet is raising money for Meningitis Research Foundation this Christmas, in honour of a lovely long-standing Mumsnetter who sadly passed away earlier this year. We will be doubling donations up to £10,000.
Meningitis is a devastating and indiscriminate disease. Whilst babies, young children and young adults are the most susceptible, meningitis and septicemia can affect any one, of any age, at any time, not just babies, which is a dangerous misconception.
Striking quickly without warning, meningitis can kill within hours and early warning signs are notoriously difficult to spot. For every 10 people affected, one will die and two will be left with life-altering after-effects such as limb amputations, brain damage, and hearing and sight loss. In the most serious cases, those affected may never lead independent lives again.
Christmas is peak time for meningitis and septicaemia. A higher presence of bacteria in the winter months means that meningitis is more likely to spread during the Christmas period than at any other time of the year.
Meningitis Research Foundation is a leading UK and international meningitis charity that brings together people and expertise to defeat meningitis and septicaemia wherever it exists. They aim to see fewer people get meningitis in the first place; see more people survive with reduced disability and a better quality of life; and have engaged, informed and supported patients and communities.
Your support will go directly into MRF’s work in support, awareness, research and advocacy; helping to defeat this devastating disease and provide a better life for those living with the after-effects. Please donate today if you can. Thank you so much!
