The North East Trust for Aphasia (NETA) supports people with aphasia and their carers. Aphasia means difficulties with communication, often following stroke. The person with aphasia can have problems speaking, understanding, reading and writing. This can have major effects for both the person and their family in terms of social life, work and relationships.

Story

This is our third steps challenge after we ran very successful events in 2015 and 2016. The aim is to promote getting fitter and healthier, while raising money for NETA and having fun with friends and colleagues. We aim for the challenge to suit people of all abilities. We ask people to donate £5 to NETA as an entrance fee, and to enter the challenge either on their own, or as a team of up to five people. You set your own challenge and work towards a goal over four weeks. This could be to reach a certain number of steps, to virtually walk from one location to another, or meet an average daily step total. We have provided some links to help you set your challenge here. If you like, you could compete with other members of your family, with colleagues, or rivals from another office. We encourage people to use their own pedometers, fitness trackers, or step counting smartphone apps.
